How the North Node Can Indicate Our Purpose in This Lifetime

Hey everyone, it's Penny here! I hope you are okay! Today’s topic will be a different one, and I’m really excited about it! Story time: Ever since I was a little kid, I found planning very hard.

I was never able to keep up with my tasks. I really struggled with using planners and agendas. I hated timetables! Instead of following a schedule, I always preferred to go with the flow. But of course, this became very hard when I was preparing for the university entrance exam. Then, I needed to create my own schedule when I was in university.

I always bought yearly planners, but I never completed them.Later, I found out that when I was interested in astrology, I learned about the north and south nodes.

So, what are the north and south nodes?

The north node means what we are here in this lifetime to master, whereas the south node is what is "familiar" to us. Our north node represents our destiny in this lifetime and our life path. It is what must be done to fulfill the soul’s purpose. Since it represents what the soul must become, it is unknown and not always a comfortable territory.

Since our south node is what is natural to us, the soul inevitably falls back into the south node. The south node represents a gateway to the past. It is an ancient part of our psyche and our soul. It is where the abilities of the soul reside.

The challenge of our lives is to take the positive traits of our south node and leave behind the negative ones. If you believe in karma, the south node can tell us about what we dealt with the most in our previous life or reincarnation. Or if you don’t believe in reincarnation, it can also be said that the south node is our innate capacity, something we were born with.

The north node and the south node are opposites of each other. For example, if your north node is in the 4th house, this means your south node will be in the opposite house (which is the 10th house)This is reasonable since these nodes are also opposing in nature.

Here's how you can calculate it:

Go to astro.com and select Horoscopes.Underneath the huge Horoscopes section, you will see Chart Drawing, Ascendant. Click on that, and then enter your birth details. You will see your natal chart.

Then, you need to look for the sign of the north node in order to find out about yours. It's called True Node. Here's an example from my chart. You can see that my North Node is in Virgo.

Virgo in astrology is related to planning, structuring, and liking things just right and in order. If we go back to my planner example, we can actually see that I felt the urge to plan things, but I couldn’t before, since my south node was my familiar zone and my soul had a subconscious way of wanting to stay there.

If the north node is in Virgo, it means that the south node is in Pisces, since they are opposite signs.Pisces represents dreams, going with the flow, a more spiritual life view, and feeling more connected with the universe, and that's what I was more prone to. I was going with the flow instead of planning my daily life.

Here are the zodiac signs for each north node, along with their opposite signs!

North Node in Aries/South Node in Libra: The Path of Self-Development. The soul is trying to learn to be separate, self-sufficient, and shine as an individual. The soul was involved in lots of relationships, and therefore, this might result in a lack of self in this lifetime.

North Node in Taurus/South Node Scorpio: The Path of Inner Security The soul is learning that true strength comes from awareness of the self.

Problems can arise because of security; a South node is Scorpio, since the soul has been through hardships and has a lot of emotional pain, so it can find it hard to find a secure place in this world.

North Node in Gemini/South Node in Sagittarius: The Path of Effective Communication The soul is learning to express itself in this lifetime without vagueness. This is the soul’s path to truth.

The soul, in its past lifetime, explored many beliefs and expanded its horizons. Now it must simply learn to be.

North Node in Cancer/South Node Capricorn: The Path of Nurture The soul is learning to nurture and care for itself and those around it. The soul has gained authority in the past lifetime and still has a tendency to control everything.

North Node Leo/South Node Aquarius: In this lifetime, the soul is learning to shine. The path of the heart and trusting its talents. The soul worked for humanity in its past life, but now it needs to leave its tendency to be a rebel and simply become its unique self.

North Node Virgo/South Node Pisces: The Path of Service The soul is learning to help others without the thought of recognition. In the previous life, the soul might have been involved in martyr-victim situations. Now it must leave these patterns.

North Node Libra/South Node Aries: The Path of Relationship The soul is learning how to be an equal partner in relationships since, in the past lifetime, the soul was self-centered and was separate as a self.

North Node Scorpio/South Node Taurus: The Path of Mastering Power The soul is learning how to use its power for good. This is also the path of self-mastery.

North Node Sagittarius/South Node Gemini: The path of expanding your horizons The soul is on a journey for knowledge of the true meaning behind the universe. You might think about the Fool card in Tarot.

North Node Capricorn/South Node Cancer. The soul must learn to listen to its own authority rather than the authority figures it has formerly relied upon.

The soul has learned to nurture and care for others but must now leave possessiveness and attachment in the past.

North Node Aquarius/South Node Leo: The soul is assisting the evolution of humanity. It must leave the use of emotional games and pride behind and serve humanity.

North Node Pisces/South Node Virgo: The Path of Enlightenment The soul is seeking oneness and must learn the difference between this and atonement. This is the path that leads back to the divine. The soul has learned how to serve others and must leave behind the search for perfection.
